Fortune reported that Visa, Mastercard, Stripe, and Coinbase are in early discussions to form a joint stablecoin platform — a potential consortium response to the Tether and Circle duopoly in a market now above $300 billion. No formal agreement exists, and the report cautioned that antitrust scrutiny and the coordination problems that hampered earlier bank consortia make execution uncertain. Circle's stock fell roughly 11% on the initial report.
Janus Henderson, managing roughly $480 billion, took a position in Ethena's ENA token and agreed to integrate its AAA-rated JAAA collateralized loan obligation fund into USDe reserves, capped near $310 million. The tokenized JAAA fund, built on Centrifuge, mirrors Janus Henderson's $27 billion off-chain AAA CLO ETF strategy, and both firms are targeting regulated USDe and ENA products — including ETFs — in 2H 2026. The deal extends institutional asset-manager participation in stablecoin reserve composition.
NVNM Chain announced the upcoming launch of its $NVNM token, targeting Q4 2026, built on NVNM Chain — described as the first Layer 2 on MANTRA Chain. Developed with private-market data firm Inveniam, the network is designed to align participants around verification, provenance, and accountability for AI agents and real-world asset data, with the token positioned as the coordination layer for those functions. NVNM also contributed to GBBC's 101 Real-World Blockchain Use Cases Handbook this week.
DBS, Singapore's largest bank, will offer tokenized physical gold to retail customers through its digibank app in 2H 2026, with each token backed by one gram of vaulted gold (~SGD 200). Customers can buy fractional amounts, settle near-instantly via atomic settlement, and redeem for physical gold, with DBS handling vaulting, issuance, and distribution in house. Separately, VARA-regulated PRYPCO Mint in Dubai launched PAX Gold–backed tokenized gold, going live June 19. Tokenization is broadening from financial instruments into physical commodities and regional retail markets.
